MadeinVilnius.lt's editors were contacted by an outraged Vilnius woman who was shocked by the sight she saw near the cherry blossom park: a puppy was bending branches and biting cherry blossoms while playing. Although the surrounding people were not surprised by this sight, some residents are angry that people are damaging the trees in this way.

As the city municipality later explained, breaking branches and any other destruction of trees is punishable by fines. And this rule applies not only to cherry blossoms, but also to all other trees and greenery in Vilnius.

"According to the valid rules for the protection of green spaces and green spaces, it is forbidden to break or otherwise damage trees, bushes, their branches and bark. This can result in a fine ranging from a warning to 30 euros, and if the violation is repeated - up to 100 euros," comments Gabrielius Grubinskas, Vilnius city municipalities Media relations specialist.

The municipality urges people not to be silent and if they see a person committing a violation, they should be disciplined. Instead, their owners are responsible for the proper behavior of pets. In both cases, one rule applies - if you see someone committing a violation - speak up, draw attention to inappropriate behavior.

"If the person does not respond to discipline, then the violation should be recorded and the information transferred to the municipality or the police," adds the representative of the municipality.

The cherry blossoms bloomed earlier than usual this year. Like every year, everyone who wants to capture or just spend time near the Japanese cherry trees flocked to them. After all, they don't bloom for long, and there are many people who want to see blooming cherry blossoms.
