Vilnius city mayor Remigius Šimašius promised to organize an open-air disco in the capital if Lithuania wins the Eurovision Song Contest this year. Having won the national selection for the second year in a row, "The Roop" with the song "Discoteque" are already considered one of the leaders of the competition and have real chances to bring the victory to Vilnius.

The head of Vilnius promised to organize an open disco under the stars if this year's Lithuanian representatives "The Roop" and their song "Discoteque" are crowned winners of the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest. Event, named Open Discoteque (English Open Discoteque), with an allusion to the song title "Discoteque", would be organized in compliance with all the security requirements in force at the time.

"I have no doubt that The Roop has every chance to win Eurovision this year." The promise of an open-air disco is our proof of how much we believe in victory and support this group. If "The Roop" wins the title, we will turn Vilnius into the largest open dance floor so that citizens and guests of the city can, quoting the words of the song, "discoteque right at their home" - enjoy the disco at their home," said R. Šimašius. According to him, Vilnius is ready to host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2022.

The idea of an "open disco" is also supported by the musicians of "The Roop" who create in Vilnius themselves, whose song has already been liked by listeners in many European countries. "Vilnius is our home, and its streets are our dance floor. It would be extremely gratifying if our song inspired such a celebration. I can't wait to see how Vilnius could embody the atmosphere of "Discoteque" and let the magic of this song unfold," said Vaidotas Valiukevičius, leader of The Roop.

An open-air disco would be part of an initiative to transform public spaces into community spaces. It is hoped that this unique event will help people get rid of pandemic fatigue, drawing inspiration from this year's Lithuanian representatives at Eurovision. This is another idea of how urban people can try new forms of communication and leisure in a period when many of the usual things are still limited by the global pandemic.

Citizens will also be able to offer their ideas on how an open-air disco could look in the event of a victory in the Eurovision Song Contest.
