The creators of the short video sharing platform TikTok have announced that their new photo sharing app, TikTok Notes, will soon be available to all users. Users soon noticed that its functions are almost the same as its biggest competitor, the social network Instagram. Soon, the photos they upload to their accounts will end up on the new photo and text sharing app, TikTok Notes. This is how the developers of the platform announced the app they are developing to compete with Instagram.
According to the TikTok developers, the design of the new TikTok Notes platform has not yet been confirmed. The launch date of the platform has also not been announced yet.
"Reports received by some TikTok users indicate that the new app will allow users to upload or share photo posts. Currently, TikTok offers a feature that allows you to post a series of photos with sounds and filters. "Typically, many TikTok users are followers - they just look at content from other creators, and this new app could be a new way to get more involved," notes Mr. Antropik.
Copies each other
According to Mr. Antropik, this is not the first time that Instagram and TikTok have created features similar to each other. in 2020 Instagram has introduced Reels, a short video format similar to a TikTok stream. Following its success, Instagram even tried to make the Reels format a core feature of the platform. Due to the negative reaction, this change was abandoned.
"The trend of copying and duplicating functions is evident in all social networks. This is because it is not uncommon for such solutions to pay off and engage more users. For example, Instagram copied its popular Stories feature from another popular platform, Snapchat. Another example is the Threads app introduced by Meta, which works on the same principle as its predecessor X (formerly Twitter),” says Mr. Antropik.
She adds that as the features of social media platforms become similar, user acceptance of new apps will depend on the accuracy of the algorithms, the user experience, and the communities that gather within them.
"The most important task of the new TikTok Notes platform will be to offer such an experience that users will not only try it out of curiosity, but will actually stay in it for a long time," says Mr. Antropik.
