The company added that it apologizes for the inconvenience. The website Downdetector also reported that there has been an increase in problems with the McDonald's app in the past couple of hours.
The company's operations in China were also disrupted for several hours, and became a hot topic on Weibo. The company later reported that the online ordering system had been fully restored.
McDonald's in Hong Kong wrote on Facebook that the ordering function on the mobile phone app and self-ordering machines was down, but later said the system was gradually being restored.
There was an error message on the McDonald's website in South Korea.
The company's networks in Singapore, Australia and New Zealand were also affected, according to media reports.
Chicago-based McDonald's Corp. said the problems were unrelated to a cybersecurity issue.
“We are aware of the technological disruption that has affected our restaurants; the issue is currently being resolved, the company said in a statement. "We thank our customers for their patience and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused."
