1, 2 or 5 euro coins are common for each. However, the Bank of Lithuania will soon issue a euro coin with a somewhat unexpected value of 1,5 euros.

Not only the nominal value of the coin is strange, but also its subject - the tale of 12 brothers.

"Twelve brothers running around with blackbirds" is a well-known Lithuanian folk tale about a sister looking for her bewitched brothers, who were turned into blackbirds. Blackbirds symbolize a mysterious and magical world, which is not very easy to enter.

The tale emphasizes the importance of cooperation, perseverance and determination to overcome challenges. This fairy tale is a valuable teaching tool that transmits the nation's values and morals to future generations", - this is the description of the new coin provided by the Bank of Lithuania.

The coin will be made from copper and nickel alloy. Its diameter is 27,50 mm, and its weight is 11,10 g. For comparison, a regular €2 coin has a diameter of 25,75 mm and a weight of 8,50 g.

According to the Bank of Lithuania, the artist of the new commemorative 1,5 euro coin is Eglė Žemaitė.

The new coin has an estimated start of pre-distribution on 2024/05/15 and a release date of 2024/05/22.

The circulation of the new coin is 30 thousand. pcs., and the price is EUR 2,50 (including VAT).

The new minted coin is minted in the company "Lietuvos monetų kalykla".
