After the Minister of Internal Affairs, Agne Bilotaita, turned to the General Prosecutor's Office regarding the disclosed information about the arrest of the attackers of the Russian opposition member Leonidas Volkov, the President Gitanas Nauseda rhetorically asks if the minister intends to hold Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk accountable as well.

"Has Donald Tusk also been added to the list of those who are going to be prosecuted?" G. Nausėda told reporters in Vilnius on Tuesday.

D. Tuskas, like G. Nausėda, also communicated last Friday about in Poland detained suspects.

At that time, the president's communication group noted in a comment sent to Elta that A. Bilotaitė, who sent the letter to the prosecutors, was playing politics.

"We view the minister's appeal as irresponsible behavior and politicking against the background of the upcoming elections," the president's communication group told Elta in writing.

On Tuesday, the Minister of the Interior, A. Bilotaitė, turned to the General Prosecutor's Office, asking her to assess whether the president, who announced the arrest of the possible attackers of the Russian opposition leader, did not violate the law.

ELTA reminds that on Friday G. Nausėda announced that two persons suspected of the attack on L. Volkova were arrested in Poland.

After this news, the head of the country received criticism from some politicians. The Minister of Internal Affairs stated that publishing such information is the prerogative of services, not politicians. She also raised questions as to whether G. Nausėda's statements did not harm the ongoing pre-trial investigation.

"It's probably not Mrs. Bilotaitė's job to tell me what I should and shouldn't say. (…) It certainly won't harm research and processes, because we very carefully assessed when we can do it and when it will no longer affect the quality of the operation", G. Nausėda replied to the criticism.

Alexei Navalny's associate L. Volkov was attacked in Vilnius in March. A large police force responded to the report about a Russian citizen being attacked and injured in Vilnius, Aro and special officers were called. It is considered that the attack may be related to the victim's political activities.

Police conducts a pre-trial investigation for minor health impairment.
