A very large amount of cannabis was seized in Gariūnai (video)

Vilnius district Officers of the Criminal Police Organized Crime Investigation Board of the Chief Police Commissariat are conducting a pre-trial investigation into the illegal possession of a very large amount of narcotics (Article 260 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Lithuania. 3 d.).

The pre-trial investigation was started after April 18 of this year. An Opel Insignia car was stopped for inspection in Vilnius, near Gariūnai market place. When the officers started checking the documents of the car and the driver, which turned out to be out of order - the driver did not have a technical inspection of the car and mandatory civil liability insurance, a smell similar to the smell of cannabis was emitted from the car's cabin. It was decided to check the car in more detail - a bag was observed on the back seat, which contained 9 transparent vacuum-sealed plastic packages with a green plant material, suspected to be cannabis. A pre-trial investigation was immediately started in accordance with Article 260 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Lithuania. on the 3rd (Illegal possession of narcotic or psychotropic substances with the intent to distribute them or illegal possession of a very large quantity of narcotic or psychotropic substances).

Vilnius district after the officers of the Criminal Police Organized Crime Investigation Board of the Chief Police Commissariat took over the pre-trial investigation, the possible place of residence of the person who transported cannabis was determined in Vilnius. After a procedural coercive search was carried out in the apartment, two suitcases with suspected cannabis were found. About 11 kg of cannabis were found and seized, which were similarly packaged in the same way as those found in the car. Packaging materials, a vacuuming machine, and other items significant for the pre-trial investigation were also found.       

The preliminary value of the discovered cannabis at the wholesale price can reach around 70 euros.

A person in possession of these narcotic substances is subject to the strictest pre-trial detention - 3 months' detention. The detainee faces imprisonment from 10 to 15 years for the crime he is accused of.

Vilnius district The officers of the organized crime investigation of the Chief Police Commissariat of the Criminal Police are continuing the investigation in order to identify all persons who contributed to this criminal act, therefore it is believed that there will be more arrested persons.

The pre-trial investigation is organized and led by the prosecutor of the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Department of the Vilnius District Prosecutor's Office.

As noted by police officers investigating this type of criminal acts, cannabis remains the most popular psychoactive substance on the Lithuanian market.
