On the occasion of the 700th anniversary of Vilnius Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre and the Museum of the Palace of Lords invite you to a unique experience. Listening to the music of Marco Scacchi, which has not survived to this day, created in the 29th century, has become possible thanks to artificial intelligence. Using it, composers Mantautas Krukauskas and Māris Kupčs on September 30 and 18. XNUMX p.m. The opera "Andromeda" will be presented in the Palace of the Lords.

From the past with artificial intelligence

When the XNUMXth century In the middle of the XNUMXth century, the opera "Andromeda" was presented to the Grand Duke of Lithuania and the King of Poland Vladislaus Vaz in Vilnius, many European countries had not even heard of the opera genre itself. Unfortunately, only the libretto of "Andromeda" written by Virgilio Puccitelli has survived to this day, and the music written by M. Scacchi has been carried away by the passing ages.

The Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, the National Museum, the Palace of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater have initiated a unique project - to restore lost opera music with the help of artificial intelligence.

"Andromeda" is one of the three in the Lower Castle of Vilnius in the 1599th century. of operas shown (the other two are "Elena's Kidnapping" and "Avviltoji Kirkė"). The author of their librettos is Virgilio Puccitelli (1654-1602), whom the ruler met while traveling in Italy. The authorship of the music for the first operas performed in Lithuania is attributed to the leader of the Vladislaus Vaza band, the Italian composer, bandmaster and music theorist Marc Scacchi (around 1662 - around XNUMX)," says Dr. Vydas Dolinskas.

The first of its kind in the world

To bring back the lost history, an international team of developers used an artificial intelligence tool (DI model Martin Malandro). And according to the surviving works of M. Scacchi and his contemporaries, he tried to restore the 1644. The opera performed in the Lower Castle of Vilnius.

"As far as we know, this will be the world's first live opera whose entire musical material (score) is created using modern neural network tools. Although the stylistics is close to the opera of the early baroque, but when generating the music, using artificial intelligence as an instrument, the decisions were made by the people of today. Therefore, it can be said that it is a recreation of a baroque opera with the influence of the XNUMXst century," says composer Mantautas Krukauskas.

You will get a team of developers

After almost four centuries, "Andromeda" brought back to life will be presented by the performers Monta Martinsone, Nora Petročenko, Rūta Vosyliūtė (Vox), Steponas Zonys, Jonas Sakalauskas, Justina Kaminskaitė, Ignas Ščesnulevičius, Ieva Gaidamavičiūtė-Barkauskė, Marija Geniušaitė, Kęstutis Alčauskis and Vytautas Vepštas. and also guests from Latvia - Rūdis Cebulis and Krišs Pozemkovskis.

The baroque music orchestra "Cappella Concertante Vilnense" will play, which this time will be led by conductor, early music researcher and composer from Latvia Māris Kupčs. He also edited the music of "Andromeda", which was recreated by the Lithuanian composer M. Krukauskas with the help of artificial intelligence.

The concert performance of the opera is directed by the founder of Kosmos Theater Žilvinas Vingelis, who explores the connections between modern technologies and performing arts. Rimas Sakalauskas creates video projections based on early Baroque paintings, also with the help of an artificial intelligence tool. The costumes for the opera were created by the artist Viktorija Ramanauskaitė, the lighting artist – Simas Sirutavičius.

The project is part of the Vilnius 700th anniversary program. The initiator of the celebration is Vilnius city municipality, curator of the program - Vilnius Tourism and Business Development Agency "Go Vilnius". The implementation of the program is financed by the Vilnius City Municipality and the Chancellery of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania.
