The Vilnius State Small Theater announces the beginning of the new - 35th - season, which includes the following productions: the premiere of director Naubert Jasinskas based on I. Bergman's script "Unfaithful", the premiere of Žilvins Vingelis based on J. Cocteau's play "Orpheus", the sketch of Oskar Koršunov's future performance based on M. Ivaškevičius's play "Kantas", which DramaTest is turning into a creative residency, and the series "Creative Conversations" continues.

Last season, the Vilnius Small Theater was bright, releasing as many as five exclusive and unique premieres: "Scilė nori buti žmogumi" (dir. G. Tuminaitė), "Infinity" (dir. G. Tuminaitė), "Tinder dates" (dir. G. Tuminaitė, S. Žyrkov, K. Glušajev), "Ein Elefant" (dir. T. Montrimas), with whom on October 7 the theater will celebrate World Mental Health Day, and "L. THERE IS S." (dir. G. Štiormer). The "Sirens" festival included the play "Uncle Vania" in the program of the Lithuanian showcase, after which the play, which won four "Golden Stage Crosses", was noticed by foreign producers and made the name of Lithuanian theater famous at the "Reflex" festival in Romania and at the prestigious "Wiener Festwochen" festival in Austria. We continued the already international dramaturgy and theater testing space "DramaTest" (Ukraine, Germany, Italy) and paved the way for international relations, which determined the direction of the 35th season.

Theater and jazz performance "Infinity" continues its series of unique performances in the Vilnius Small Theater. Ukrainianshe will dig DramaTest

The Ukrainian "DramaTest" is buzzing in the theater: August 29 - September 9. the play sketch based on Ukrainian author O. Annenko's dystopian drama "Present Perfect" is created by young director Tetiana Hubrii together with actors: L. Kalpokaite, J. Braškiu, N. Būtyte, G. Šepliakovaite, K. Matijošaičius, I. Gribauskaite. October 17-29 the sketch of the performance based on the play "The Stone" by the German playwright M. von Mayenburg will be created by the young director Yevhenii Reznichenko together with the actors: I. Patkauskaite, G. Šepliakovaite, A. Šeštokaite, T. Kliuku. Both of these young directors were selected in cooperation with the Goethe Institute in Lithuania and the Kyiv Academic Drama and Comedy Theater on the left bank of the Dnieper (Ukraine).

DramaTestturns into a creative residence

DramaTest, which was held for the third time, grew, improved and became international: directors from Ukraine, Germany, and Italy established important contacts among the Lithuanian participants, discussed the possibilities of continued cooperation with Germany MInachner Volkstheater etc. According to director G. Tuminaitė, taking this into account, it was decided to change the name of the competition to "DramaTest Residency" so that it turns into a creative residency where the director will have the opportunity to create and develop his ideas in a safe environment. There will also be no age limit for residency participants. The most important criteria will be original ideas, innovativeness, new consciousness. The sketch preparation time will be extended, and they will be able to create for a longer period of time in the residency. Those who want to participate, stay tuned. The premiere of Naubert Jasinskas "infake"

Vilnius small theater, in cooperation with VšĮ "Darbininkai", on December 8, 9, will invite the audience to the visual poetic story of the young generation theater director Naubert Jasinskas - a play based on Ingmar Bergman's script "Unfaithful". The director Naubertas Jasinskas, awarded with two "Golden Crosses of the Stage", mentions that he chose the Vilnius Small Theater for this production primarily because of the aesthetic sense. "Actually, the classics are not suitable everywhere because of a certain context, and Bergman and the Vilnius Small Theater have a certain common aesthetic sense, through which they can connect," the creator is convinced. According to director N. Jasinskas, the performance will primarily be about love, here the perspective of infidelity will also be examined: how and why the so-called duality, the inability to express one's needs, appears in a person; why we deny our lust when it is unquenchable; what happens when we don't talk and avoid the truth. Thus, themes of passion, jealousy, social hierarchy, patriarchal mechanism and mutual misunderstanding become important.

Sketch of Oskar Korshunov's upcoming performance "Kant"

The Vilnius Small Theater has established cooperation with the director Oskars Koršunovs, who in February will present to the audience a sketch of the upcoming performance based on the play "Kantas" by the famous Lithuanian playwright Marios Ivaškevičius. 2024 marks the 300th anniversary of the birth and 220th anniversary of the death of Immanuel Kant, the founder of German classical philosophy. Responding to these anniversaries, the State Vilnius Small Theater seeks to turn the spotlight on I. Kant. "Kant" by M. Ivaškevičius has not yet been staged in Lithuania. It is a play in four acts, which tells the story of one lunch with the German philosopher Immanuel Kant. The action takes place around 1783. in the kingdom. The men gather for a traditional daily conversation at the dinner table. It is hoped that next season this sketch will be able to be developed into a performance that will complement the theater repertoire.

The premiere of Žilvinas Vingelis "Orfeh"

The plot of the play includes the best traditions of surrealism, Dadaism, stage absurdity and visual arts and modernly interweaves the pathosic ancient Greek myth and ironic social narratives of modern life. "J. Cocteau's work, which has been little studied and studied in the Lithuanian theater, with its interdisciplinary links, allows us to equally and reasonably combine the traditions of modern technologies, visual arts, physical theater, sound art, verbal-psychological theater and classical dramaturgy on the stage, creating a performance of stage poetry unique only to the theater". - says the director.

in 2023 the first of the "Creative Conversations" cycle took place in the spring event "Dante the Great in the Small Theater of Vilnius", initiated by VVMT and the Institute of Italian Culture in Vilnius. "Creative talks" are discussions-lectures that take place inside or outside the theater. During the events, works of poetry, prose, and drama that have become classics of world and/or Lithuanian literature are examined: professional actors read an excerpt of the work, followed by a discussion during which the work is analyzed. Not only representatives of the Lithuanian theater and the academic world, literary experts, philosophers, art critics, etc., but also guests from other countries take part in the creative conversations. The events of the "Creative Conversations" cycle will present the oldest mythical epic of mankind, named after Gilgamesh, and further delve into the personalities of I. Kant and J. During VVMT's development of cooperation with foreign theaters and the most famous directors of today, one of the most important results is the establishment of creative ties and the birth of plans for future joint work with the contemporary German director Christian Weise, who will enrich the theater repertoire with the original play of the well-known, already classic American playwright T. Moreover, the director has a unique directing style and style - in many of his performances, the stories are constructed using an "inverted", multi-layered, absurd, ironic way of telling.
