The startup of Lithuanian Emilė Radytė Samphire Neuroscience  claims to revolutionize women's health. A neuroscientist has developed a brain stimulation loop that will curb menstrual pain and premenstrual (PMS) symptoms such as anxiety, mood swings, and irritability. Such a medical device will be the first in the world – an innovative, safe, clinically researched alternative to pain medication. This bow stimulates the brain and relieves menstrual discomfort and pain.

"This solution is the first such medical solution on the market that affects cognitive symptoms. These neurotechnologies have been known and used for about 20 years to treat depression and chronic pain, but we have applied them in a modern way, the bow will work bluetooth help, you just need to download the app and enter some of your data. The thin, stylish bow consists of two parts: one of them, the front, stimulates the prefrontal cortex, and the second - the motor cortex of the brain. The front part reduces the symptoms of PMS, the second - the motor part helps to reduce the pain caused by menstruation", says E. Radytė.

The idea was born while working in the emergency team

Radytė is from Vilnius, after finishing school 7 years ago, she went to Harvard University JAV to study neuroscience. During her studies, the researcher worked in the university emergency team, where she often encountered people suffering from nervous psychosis.

"About 50 percent all calls were such that you cannot help people when you arrive. When something is bleeding, you stick a band-aid, bandage it, and in nervous situations you are almost helpless. Being in the university laboratories, where the most modern solutions are developed, I constantly wondered why, with so many different technologies, we cannot help such patients," the scientist recalls.

Later, after going to study for a master's degree at Oxford University, E. Radytė chose to delve into brain stimulation and how it can help in the treatment of depression. Currently, she continues to develop the product with the team and continues her PhD studies.

"Watching women, my friends, myself, I realized that we don't have any treatment for PMS, menstrual pain. Those few days a month really turn into depression, women's brains look different on those days, it's not just a funny, made-up myth. Mood swings, anxiety disorders, impaired ability to make decisions occur precisely because of altered brain function. And here the suggestions "eat blueberries or sleep longer" are not suitable. That's how the desire arose to create a solution that would help solve this problem, because too little research and attention is given to this topic in general", E. Radytė is convinced.

Received investments and established a branch in Lithuania

The scientist is developing the startup in London together with a team that includes 2 other Lithuanians. At the moment, the company is processing documentation and licenses so that the innovative bow can be sold. Production is planned for Britain, but different components will be purchased from various countries, including Lithuania. Company Samphire Neuroscience  intends to sell them directly, several contracts have also been signed with gynecology clinics.

Investments and Business Guarantees (INVEGA) invested 2 thousand in E. Radytė's company under the Akceleratorius 200 financial instrument and through its partners FIRSTPICK. euros. They are for marketing and further development of the product to reach other markets. The company already has a branch in Lithuania.

"Samphire Neuroscience" undoubtedly has the potential to become another outstanding Lithuanian startup and shake up the world of medicine. This product opens up great opportunities for the development of new solutions for the treatment of depression, migraine and other pain disorders. It is expected that the sale of the bow will be started next year, and the waiting list is growing rapidly," noted Marijus Andrijauskas, investor and member of the FIRSTPICK team.
