National Blood Center is about to be reconstructed in Vilnius, in Antakalni the existing building complex. The preliminary value of the project is about 5-6 million. euros.

The head of the center says that they want to renovate all of its buildings in Lithuania. In addition to Vilnius, it is planned to renovate the facade of the Klaipėda branch building, and the Šiauliai branch building is currently being renovated.

"The buildings have not been renovated since their construction, they are quite neglected, so completely Soviet. We want to completely reconstruct the entire complex (in Vilnius - BNS). We will also build a robotic plasma chamber," center director Daumantas Gutauskas told BNS.

According to him, the activities of the organization are western, but the buildings are outdated. 

After receiving Vilnius city municipalities approval of the architects, a tender for the contractor will be announced. The works will be partly financed from the accumulated funds of the center, besides, according to D. Gutauskas, it is expected that at least 40 percent the amounts will be compensated by the Environmental Project Management Agency (EPMA) from European funds.

The reconstruction of the Vilnius center will take place in stages, during which the blood center will work normally, as it is necessary to ensure the production of blood components. 

The head of the center hopes that the reconstruction of one building will be completed by the end of 2025 - the laboratory and production will move there, and the entire complex will be renovated in 2026. The donor reception department will also remain here.

National Blood Center, located on Žolyno Street, the first building was built in 1960, and the second in 1988.
