Vilnius municipality will consider project proposals for the reconstruction of the church on Savičius street. The police department seeks St. To reconstruct the building of the Virgin Mary Calming Church and adapt it for the needs of the police. This meeting is expected to be organized remotely.

A warehouse was installed in the church

The church was destroyed in various periods, the purpose also changed from a church to a church, an ammunition warehouse, a warehouse of a trading base. During the Soviet era, in 1967, a warehouse of the Vilnius inter-republican trade base was installed in the church building. When the church was converted into a warehouse, its space was divided into three floors with overlaps, an industrial-type elevator was installed in the central nave, and an industrial-type lift was installed in the side nave. The altars were demolished, toilets and storerooms were installed in the sacristy, and two staircases to the third floor were installed in the side naves. The church turned into a 3-story warehouse.

Overlays installed in the Soviet era will not be demolished

The church belongs to the Ministry of Internal Affairs since 2017. The historical material indicates that in 2018 June 8 the church was dedicated to St. In the name of Virgin Mary the Comforter. This happened exactly 250 years after the first religious services were held there.

"In the basement, it is planned to install a ramové room, suitable for gatherings of the Police community and various activities, as well as a quiet room; various storage and auxiliary rooms - toilets, wardrobe, etc. Ramovė's kitchen is planned on the first floor, in the former St. Mikalojus Tolentinietis and St. in the space of Augustin's chapels. A cafe could also be installed here.

On the first floor, the main hall and reception of the building are planned, the chapel of the Lord Jesus is being restored, a flexible space for various events, meeting rooms, staff offices and auxiliary rooms - toilets and a cloakroom. St. In the space of the Augustinian chapel, which has a direct connection with the field, it is possible to foresee the cooking (heating and serving) if necessary.

The second floor of the building is intended for semi-public functions - education and meeting spaces, planned administrative premises. The educational space is expected to be flexible, with the possibility of dividing it into several smaller rooms, so that several classes can take place at the same time. The sacristy is left in its current location.

On the third floor, the main St. The space of the chapel of the Virgin Mary, with a chapel for the tabernacle and about 310 seats (including the balcony), as well as rooms for silence and confession. At the back of the main space, a balcony is planned for the choir or visitors.

Various art installations could be exhibited in the shelter of the building - an intermediate stop on the way up to the tower. The number of visitors in the shelter and the tower would be limited to 5 people at a time," the project proposals say about the church's reconstruction solutions.

Rough reinforced concrete floors and columns installed in the Soviet era will not be painted, repaired only in those places where it is necessary according to structural studies.
