The international bakery and confectionery production group "Fazer" of Finnish capital is considering merging the bakeries in the Baltic countries into one unit - it would operate in the Latvian city of Uogre - and closing the "Gardėsio" bakery. Beautiful, Fazer reported on Tuesday.
According to the report, up to 185 employees may lose their jobs in Kaunas due to the changes, but up to 60 of them are planned to be hired in Uogre. Currently, the labor council of the Kaunas unit is being consulted, and production would be transferred to Latvia by the beginning of 2025,
"If the plans go ahead, we will do everything we can to support our employees and help them find new jobs." Vacancies in other departments of the Fazer group would be offered in order of priority to those employees whose employment relationships might be terminated," Anne Mere, manager of Fazer Bakery Baltic, which manages the bakery in Kaunas, said in a statement.
"Fazer" announces that investments in a modern warehouse, new and updated production processes in Uogre would amount to 18 million. euros,
According to the group, having one common factory would improve the supply chain for all three Baltic markets.
According to "Sodros", the company "Fazer Lietuva" has 210 employees.
