The first one should appear in Lithuania in 2024 restaurant with a Michelin rating, the Minister of Economy and Innovation said on Wednesday Dawn Armonaitė.
"There will be a Michelin restaurant in Lithuania, we are working very actively on that right now, but I cannot reveal more details for now," A. Armonaitė said at the press conference.
Lithuanian Tourism Promotion AgencyTravel in LithuaniaDirector Olga Gončarova told BNS that Michelin evaluators should visit the country in private, without informing anyone about it. She also added that no contracts have been signed with Michelin yet.
"I can only confirm that we are working on it. (…) We cooperate with them, we talk, we are in negotiation processes", O. Gončarova told BNS.
According to her, Michelin evaluators are invited to the country by state institutions, they pay for their visit, and the amount "may reach half a million".
O. Gončarova said she could not reveal more details.
In August, the LRT portal announced that Michelin evaluators would visit Lithuania. The president of the Lithuanian Restaurant and Hotel Association (LVRA) Evalda Šiškauskienė told the portal that Lithuania has already signed a contract with Michelin. According to her, the visit of Michelin guides to Lithuania could cost about 500 thousand. euros.
The Michelin Guide, which awards Michelin stars, has already visited in Latvia and in Estonia. The Michelin Guide is an internationally well-known and prestigious ranking of restaurants that evaluates them according to various criteria and awards them Michelin stars.
