Recently the eldest Vilnius city municipalities architect Mindaugas Pakalnis presented what a high-rise building in Vilnius should be during the meeting of the city municipality. At the same time, it finally became clear which buildings in the city can be called skyscrapers.
It doesn't have to be 20-30 story buildings. A high-rise building is 35 meters above the ground. However, the question arises here - what are those 35 meters?
The editors of MadeinVilnius.lt turned to the Vilnius City Municipality to clarify how many floors a building must have in order to be recognized as a skyscraper. The municipality answers that according to construction law, a skyscraper is a building taller than 35 m. It is about 11-12 floors.
The tallest skyscraper not only in Vilnius, but also in all the Baltic countries is the European Tower - built back in 2004. It is a 148,30 meter building with 33 floors.
The first skyscrapers of Vilnius: Hotel "Lietuva" (currently "Radisson Blu Hotel Lietuva"), designed in 1963, built in 1983. and the hotel "Draugystė" (currently "Crowne Plaza Vilnius"), which was built in the city in 1973.
