Polish meteorologists say that the upcoming summer of 2025 could be one of the hottest in decades. According to the latest long-term forecasts, the country is expected to experience unbearable heat, tropical nights and heavy rains that could cause flash floods.
According to the information provided by Fani Pogody, during the summer in Lithuania, temperature spikes above 34°C are predicted. Such heat will particularly affect the southern and central regions of the country. In addition, at night the temperature may not drop below 20°C, causing so-called tropical nights, which are especially troublesome for city dwellers due to the so-called "urban heat island" effect.
In addition to the heat, heavy rains and storms are forecast, especially in the southern part of Lithuania. Some areas may receive up to 70 mm of precipitation in a short period of time, causing flash floods and making traffic difficult. Such conditions can cause serious problems for both urban infrastructure and agriculture.
Impact of climate change
These extreme weather conditions are linked to changing climate patterns that are leading to more frequent and intense heat waves and sudden downpours. Meteorologists stress that such conditions could become the new norm, and therefore preventive measures are needed to reduce their impact on people and infrastructure.
Residents are advised to monitor weather forecasts, especially heat and storm warnings. On hot days, it is recommended to avoid direct sunlight, drink plenty of fluids, and keep rooms cool. It is also important to prepare for possible power outages and ensure that the necessary supplies are available at home.
