In mid-October, even more good news arrived from Poland - the penultimate part of the "Via Baltica" highway was opened in the country. This section will speed up the journey from Lithuania to the capital of Poland - Warsaw.
"The Polish government has fulfilled its promise: it has already completed almost the entire Via Baltica route. A convenient and safe highway already connects the province of Mazovia, the Voivodeship of Palenque and Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. Thus, even more kilometers are added to the Polish highway network. We invest in every region of the country and take care of Poland's sustainable development," said Infrastructure Minister Andrzej Adamczyk at the opening of the highway section.
For now, you will have to drive through the city of Lomža
The approximately 19,5 km long section of the S61 road from Ostrów Mazowiecka to Śniadów has been newly opened. However, for cars, the journey will be longer through the city of Lomža, and trucks will not be allowed to drive through the city, as the city's bridges would not be able to withstand such loads. It is reported that until the Lomza bypass is opened, trucks will have to go through Bialystok to Lithuania.
The entire road in Poland is expected to be completed in 2025
In the meantime, road workers are not sleeping and are intensively installing the Lomža bypass, which is planned to be completed in 2025.
"Currently, the construction of the last section of the S61, the Lomza bypass in the Polenka Voivodeship, is still ongoing - from the Lomza Zachod junction to the Koln junction (12,9 km). The contractor's task is 2024. in the middle to make it available for traffic, taking into account the passage of one side of the road, which will allow truck traffic on the S61 road to the border with Lithuania. By the middle of 2025, the entire Lomza bypass will be a four-lane highway, two in each direction," the Polish government website says.
