The Polish magazine "Rynek Kolejowy" (Lithuanian: "Railway Market") found out what prices will be charged for the new route between Poland and Lithuania.
"A few weeks ago, PKP Intercity, which organizes long-distance passenger flights, announced that after many years it will resume the intercity railway connection between Poland and Kaunas and Vilnius. "IC Hańcza will run from Krakow via Warsaw, Białystok and Suwalki to Mockava in Lithuania," reads the article published by the magazine.
One ticket for the Polish and Lithuanian train
As previously announced, passengers traveling from Lithuania or Poland will have to transfer to another train in Mockava, Lazdija district. You will not need to buy a new ticket, as one ticket will be valid for the entire trip. The price list in euros is as follows:
- A trip on the route Vilnius - Warsaw will cost 25 EUR;
- The trip on the route Vilnius - Krakow will cost 30 EUR.
Unfortunately, the price is not specified, when a return ticket would also be purchased, what and if discounts will be applied.
True, the article jokes that the name of the town of Mockava sounds similar to Moscow in Polish, so it is suggested to inform more about why such a transfer is necessary and to avoid confusion for passengers.

The first train is already on December 11
The article also states that the first regular train route is scheduled for December 11. The train will leave Krakow at 4:01 am, and from Warszawa Centralna (Warsaw Central of the station) - about 7:30 in the morning.
Already earlier we wrote, that both countries will gradually improve the infrastructure by supplying the railways with rolling stock, so that the total duration of the train journey does not exceed 8 hours before the implementation of "Rail Baltica".
Currently, the average bus journey from Warsaw to Vilnius takes 8 and a half hours. Polish Road Administration data, in April 2023, several more sections of the new highway will be opened from the Polish-Lithuanian border to Warsaw, allowing to reach Warsaw even faster.
Or you can fly from Kaunas to Warsaw Modlin airport in 40 minutes with the company "Ryanair"for 40-45 EUR one way. True, the route will be launched in the spring.
