last year,Lithuanian railways” introduced the first international railway route to the Polish cities of Warsaw and Krakow. This route has attracted a lot of interest from passengers since the first days. Earlier, the Polish railways "PKP" and "Lietuvos geležinkeliai" mentioned that they would try to shorten the train travel time as soon as possible. He promised - he will implement it, probably this year.
Although more detailed information has not yet been disclosed, as there is still a month left before the presentation and entry into force of the new 2024 timetable, "Lietuvos Geležinkeliai" plans to reduce the duration of the journey already this year.
"The possibilities of international routes are evaluated both taking into account the above-mentioned aspects and cooperation with carriers from other countries. In view of this, the company intends to continue organizing the combined international route, which is popular with passengers. It is planned that after the introduction of the new 2024 the train schedule, the journey time will decrease", says Kotryna Dzikaraitė, Communications Partner of AB Lietuvos geležinkeliai.
This year, the Minister of Transport also said about shortening the route to 8 hours by the end of the year Marius Skoudis.
"I expect from the new train schedule, which is a year from now, around December. The plan is to try to shorten the entire route to eight hours, and in the future, of course, with Rail Baltica, it should be twice as short, that is, to four hours," said M. Skuodis.
Previously, it was planned that the transfer of passengers to the trains of the Polish carrier would not take place in Mockava, as now, but Beautiful. This would lead to a reduction in travel time. However, whether this will happen already this year - the company neither confirmed nor denied.
It is planned that when the RailBaltica project is completed, the trip between Warsaw and Vilnius will take about 5 hours. Currently, the journey time between Vilnius and Warsaw is 9 hours, and between Vilnius and Krakow about 13 hours.
The train between Vilnius, Warsaw and Krakow runs daily. Only one departure time is currently available. Tickets can be purchased on the ltglink.lt website. More information about the route itself can be found here.
