Record-breaking street renovation works continue in Vilnius, covering dozens of different city streets and road sections. This year, it is planned to continuously asphalt more than fifty kilometers of the capital's streets. Part of the projects is being implemented by the sustainable urban and infrastructure development company "YIT Lithuania". The work is carried out according to two Vilnius city municipalities The administration signed contracts with a total value of 36 million euros including VAT.
It is planned to upgrade the infrastructure of both the city's main streets and courtyards, bicycle and pedestrian paths. The scope of the planned works will vary - depending on the specifics of the location, roads from several hundred meters to more than 2 kilometers in length will be reconstructed in different sections.
This year, YIT Lietuva has already started or will soon start work in Kareivių, Žaliųji Ežerų, P. Jonikas–Šumskas, Tuskulėnai, Meistrai–Motorai and Grūšiakalnis–Kryžiokai Sodai, Visalaukis, Austėja, Naujakiemis, Great Gulbins–Žvelgaičio, Žalgirio, Šatrijos, Kalvų Sodų 4th and Mokslininkų streets. The aim is to improve both the main traffic flows and local infrastructure in residential areas.
"During the record-breaking renovation of Vilnius' streets, both lower-intensity streets within districts are gradually being revived, and important transportation arteries for all citizens are being transformed. We hope that with the help of professional and experienced partners, these important infrastructure change solutions will be implemented smoothly, qualitatively, and efficiently."
In the near future, reconstruction works, carried out by the YIT Lietuva team, will begin on one of the city's most important transportation arteries - Kareivių Street. After the reconstruction, a lane dedicated only to public transport will appear here in the direction of the city center, pedestrian and bicycle paths will be arranged, so all traffic participants will travel more comfortably," says Andrius Grigonis, Vice Mayor of Vilnius.
In order to avoid unforeseen problems, Vilnius residents and city guests are encouraged to be interested in planned traffic patterns, choose alternative routes and, most importantly, be attentive on the roads, especially near sections under repair where road workers are working.
"The work will be carried out both during the day and, in order to reduce inconvenience to residents, at night. During the reconstruction, the roadway, sidewalks, pedestrian and bicycle paths will be renovated. Our goal is not only to ensure safer traffic, but also to contribute to a more comfortable everyday life for all residents of the capital," says Kęstutis Vanagas, head of YIT Lietuva.
According to him, the specifics of the work may differ at each location - in some places only surface replacement or repair work will be carried out, in others - major repairs. Some of the design solutions will be prepared by YIT Lietuva with the help of partners.
During the implementation of infrastructure renovation works, special attention is paid to the protection of natural elements important to the city - greenery. According to the project implementers, the current environmental condition of each facility is assessed before work begins, and the scope and methods of work are adjusted so as to minimize the impact on green areas.
In all facilities where there are trees, shrubs or other valuable greenery near work areas, special measures are applied to protect them - physical protection zones are installed, the movement of heavy equipment is restricted, and work in such areas is performed manually.
YIT Lietuva is implementing various road infrastructure projects throughout Lithuania. With the start of the road construction season, the company has begun construction work on the Tarandė tunnel at the exit from the capital, on the Vilnius-Panevėžys highway, and is also continuing the reconstruction of the Kazbegi bridge over the Vokė River in Paneriai, which is included in the cultural heritage, and is carrying out repair work on Kareivių g. in the capital.
