The General Directorate of Roads and Highways of Poland announces that the entire length of the Via Baltica highway on the Polish side is now passable. Drivers traveling to Warsaw will be pleased to hear that the Lomza bypass was opened on September 30. This section will allow not only to avoid heavy traffic flows, but also to avoid wasting time while driving through the city of Lomža.
It is true that only one side of the highway, which is almost 13 kilometers long, is currently open in this city, i.e. one lane in both directions. It is believed that the remaining two lanes of the bypass will be completed and opened to traffic in May 2025.
From the border to Warsaw - only three hours
Even after the partial opening of the Lomza bypass, it is estimated that it will be possible to reach Warsaw from the Polish-Lithuanian border in three hours. Currently, the speed on the open section is limited to 80 km/h in both directions, and overtaking is also prohibited on this section. Heavy vehicles are also allowed to use this bypass.
The Polish General Directorate of Roads and Highways informs that a 1205-meter-long bridge over the valley of the Narew River has been installed for the purpose of the bypass.
Currently, the interactive map of Polish highways is not updated and does not indicate the open section of the Lomza bypass. However, with this map and in Poland you can familiarize yourself with the planned highway construction works HERE.
Lithuania will complete its work in 2025
We would like to remind you that "Via Lietuva" informed that the construction works of the highway "Via Baltica" will be completed by December 2025. When the almost 40-kilometer section from Marijampole to the Polish border will become one of the most modern highways in the country.
