Sh. m. September 30-October 1 for the second time, live stories will take place in Medininkai Castle event "Medininkai Castle Games". This year's celebration will be held on a special occasion - the restored Medininkų Castle turns five years old. Close to a hundred participants - war reenactors, craftsmen, musicians and dancers - will gather in the oldest brick fortress in Lithuania that has been brought back to life. Participants will come not only from Lithuania, but also from Estonia, Latvia, Belarus and Russia. The event is organized by the Trakai History Museum.
"The rebuilding of Medininkai Castle is a significant event in Lithuania's existence. Immersed in the medieval frenzy of the celebration in the shadow of the glorious past, we bow our heads to those personalities, thanks to whom the castle was resurrected in 2012, - says Gintautas Terleckas, head of the Medininkų Castle department. - We hope that the fragments of living history recreated by the participants and visitors of the festival will contribute to the revival of the nation's memory."
The event will include knights', archers' and Lithuanian traditional wrestling tournaments, a demonstration of horsemanship, and spear and ax throwing competitions. Everyone who wants to will be able to participate in the "Warrior's Trial" relay, archery competition and a special tournament for spectators. There will be a lot of music, dancing, games, and there will be a craftsman's yard, where you can not only buy the product you like, but also try your hand at it and learn the craft you're looking for.
If you are not interested in games, crafts or dancing, you can visit the yard of the soldiers, the executioner or the horseman. In keeping with the tradition of living history events, there will be a staging of the storming of the castle on Saturday evening.
The permanent exhibition of the museum will be open to the guests of the event. Medininkai Castle was rebuilt with the funds of the State of Lithuania, Lithuanians of the World and the European Union.
