Nine out of ten residents of the country positively assess Lithuania's membership NATO, and more than half (52 percent) would be willing to contribute to armed resistance during aggression against Lithuania, revealed a public survey initiated by the Ministry of National Defence.
According to the survey data, 90 percent of respondents support Lithuania's membership in NATO, more than half (52 percent) of those surveyed would be willing to defend the country with weapons in the event of aggression against Lithuania, and 61 percent of Lithuanian residents would contribute to peaceful resistance.
75 percent believe that NATO allies would defend Lithuania in the event of military aggression, and 89 percent support the presence of allies on Lithuanian territory. 75 percent of people surveyed also support the Lithuanian soldiers should be sent to international operations if requested by NATO allies.
People who participated in the survey consider Germany to be Lithuania's closest allies, JAV and Poland.
85 percent of Lithuanian residents who participated in the survey support the deployment of a German brigade in Lithuania, and the same number of people agree that the presence of allies in Lithuania deters hostile military actions.
Lithuanian residents would also support sending Lithuanian military instructors to Ukraine to train its soldiers, if Ukraine would ask for it. 67 percent of people who participated in the survey evaluate it positively. 71 percent of those surveyed support Lithuania's provision of military support to Ukraine.
71% of respondents indicated that they are able to recognize information attacks and misleading information, and 51% - what to do if they encounter a cybersecurity incident, 56% check the security of a website before entering personal data there.
More than half of respondents (66%) also support universal conscription into compulsory primary military service and are increasingly in favor of young people being called up for military service as soon as they graduate from school.
The population survey was conducted by Spinter Research in December 2024. Lithuanian citizens aged 18–75 were surveyed during the survey.
