25 people entered the list of military conscripts completed on Wednesday by the Ministry of National Defense. 149 boys, 3 young men will be conscripted into the nine-month continuous mandatory initial military service.
18-23-year-old boys are invited to military service. Students are not included in the conscript list, but they can still be called up once after graduating from high school up to the age of 26.
Arūnas Balčiūnas, director of the conscription and recruitment service, said this week that over 700 young people have already expressed their desire to perform military service.

This step is important not only for the conscripts themselves, who are called to perform the mandatory initial military service, but also for their relatives and for the whole of Lithuania - it is an opportunity to contribute with your personal contribution to the creation of a safe future for our country", - the director is quoted in the statement issued by the army.
Conscripts will be appointed to the service only after a health check and recognition as fit for service, at least five working days before the start of the service.
This year, young people born between 1999 and 2006 and who graduated in 2024 who have no reason to postpone their service are being called to perform permanent mandatory initial military service.
Young men and women between the ages of 18 and 38 can perform it voluntarily, they are given the opportunity to choose the desired place and time of service and receive maximum cumulative benefits.
Priority requests can also be submitted by those on the draft lists. Efforts will be made to take their preferred positions into account, and cumulative benefits will be 15 percent higher for them.
Those studying in higher education institutions and those who want to serve can suspend their studies for the period of compulsory military service or complete the training of junior officer commanders within three years. This year, about several hundred young people will be able to perform their service in this way.
There is still an opportunity to perform voluntary non-permanent military service in the National Defense Volunteer Forces.

The conscription reform adopted last year envisages that 18-22-year-olds who have finished school will be conscripted for military service. Persons wishing to perform voluntary service could do so between the ages of 18 and 39.
For students who entered higher education before being added to the list of conscripts, the service can be postponed, making it possible to perform it if they wish.
The duration of alternative service has been extended from ten to 12 months. Also, those young people who have graduated from higher education and acquired specialties that are lacking in the army or that the army does not prepare, will be called to serve for three months.
The changes also provide for the differentiation of normal service according to the duration - young people will have the opportunity to serve for three, six or nine months.
