The Lithuanian Radio and Television Commission (LRTK) has adopted two decisions to oblige internet service providers to block IP addresses of websites that access prohibited Russian propaganda content and violate copyrights.
According to a statement released by the Latvian Broadcasting Corporation (LRTK) on Wednesday, 24 IP addresses will be blocked through which European Union (EU) sanctioned television programs "Pervyi Kanal", "Rossiya 1", "NTV", "Rossiya RTR", "Rossija1", and "RTR Planeta" can be accessed.
The Latvian Radio and Television Commission has also decided to block five more IP address networks whose hosting service providers are based in Russia. This decision restricts access to websites that infringe copyright.
"It is obvious that the provision of such information on a website intended for Lithuanian consumers poses a threat to the national security and citizens of the Republic of Lithuania. In order to limit possible threats and the influence of a hostile state, it was decided to apply certain preventive and restrictive measures to such websites," the report states.
The LRTK adopted these decisions taking into account and in accordance with the EU Council regulations applying restrictive measures against the dissemination of disinformation and propaganda against the Community and its Member States.
The Latvian Television and Radio Broadcasting Corporation has already made similar decisions several times before.
