After a sunken United States armored vehicle was pulled from a swamp at the Pabradė training ground on Monday, the prosecutor's office has launched a pre-trial investigation into the deaths of the soldiers aboard it.
"A pre-trial investigation has been launched to determine the cause of death," he told reporters. The Seimas Prosecutor General Nida Grusnkienė said on Monday.
According to her, a prosecutor went to the scene of the incident, and the Prosecutor General's Office is conducting the investigation.
As reported by BNS, the M88 Hercules tracked rescue vehicle with four American soldiers on board went missing on Tuesday of last week during an exercise at the Pabradė training ground in the Švenčionys district.
The equipment in question was discovered on Wednesday at a depth of approximately five meters in a swampy area.
During a large-scale rescue operation with the participation of Lithuania, JAV, Polish soldiers, and specialists from other Lithuanian services, the armored vehicle was pulled out early Monday morning. It is not yet known whether the bodies of soldiers have been found inside.
