Lithuanian traffic police officers are stepping up patrols on the country's roads ahead of the Rasai and Midsummer celebrations.
A special 24-hour measure will be in place on Friday, the Police Department announced.
From Monday, June 16, Lithuania police has already begun to implement enhanced driver control throughout the country. The aim of all selected preventive measures is to ensure that persons under the influence of alcohol or other psychoactive substances do not participate in traffic, to prevent dangerous and hooligan driving during the long weekend, and to curb unruly drivers.
At the initiative of the European Roads Policing Network ROADPOL, a measure to control the sobriety, intoxication of vehicle drivers with narcotics or other psychoactive substances (Operation Alcohol & Drugs) is being organized in many European countries from June 16 to 22, and on June 20, Friday, a special 24-hour measure - a marathon (Operation Alcohol & Drugs Marathon).
The Lithuanian Police will continue raids to check drivers' sobriety on June 23-25, according to the plan approved by the Commissioner General of the Lithuanian Police.
June 26–28 – control of dangerous and hooligan driving, maneuvering, overtaking where it is prohibited, driving through intersections, railway crossings, and obeying traffic lights.
County Chief Police Commissariats will also organize additional preventive measures (raids) in the territories under their supervision, and will apply public, private or mixed patrol methods.
