On Thursday afternoon, a passenger bus caught fire on V. Sirokomlės Street in Vilnius, near the Naujoji Vilnia Polyclinic. Fortunately, no casualties were reported - the driver managed to stop the vehicle in time and let the passengers out.
The incident was reported on May 8 at 15:23 p.m. A man who called the emergency number 112 identified himself as the bus driver and reported that the vehicle had caught fire while driving. According to him, the bus was equipped with gas equipment, so the situation could have been extremely dangerous.
All Vilnius emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene - firefighters, ambulance doctors and police officers arrived. According to the Fire and Rescue Department, the engine compartment of the bus was on fire when rescuers arrived. Fire was localized in just over ten minutes – at 15:36 p.m. it was reported that it was completely liquidated.
Although the incident ended without injuries, the responsible authorities are investigating the causes of the incident. According to police, a more detailed examination will be conducted to determine the cause of the technical malfunction and the origin of the fire.
